{ the breakfast date }
Parents of small children know. It's tough to squeeze in alone time.
I kind of had this idea that with Turtle in a daily school program, I would have so much more time on my hands.
Somehow, it hasn't worked out like that.
Between school activities and playdates and tball practice and games, and volunteering for the team and planning travel and holiday things.. my imagined free time is pretty much nonexistent.
Sadly, my petition for extra hours in the day and extra days in the week has gone ignored, so we're just having to figure out ways to work with what we have.
Hence, the Morning Date.
MacGyver's schedule is on the flexible side so sometimes, he can take a few hours after Turtle heads to school so that we can hang out and spend some quality time together.
Last week, we just laid low, watching The Avengers in bed. It's my new favorite.
Today, we're going out to breakfast. MacGyver loves the first meal of the day, but we tend to be more of a cereal house most days. Getting pancakes or bacon and eggs is a special treat. Especially when you don't have to share said bacon with our little bacon-monster.'
Even though it's MacGyver's busier season, it's something we should make an effort to do a little more, even if it's just grabbing a leisurely cup of coffee at Starbucks and enjoying it at one of the outdoor cafe tables.
It works. But I'm still not giving up hope on those extra hours.
In what ways to you make time for yourself or your partner when there just don't seem to be enough minutes in the day?
