Fun for Kids: Valentine's Pops
So here's the inspiration for today's fun Valentine's craft, taken from the Disney FamilyFun site, and brought to my attention by a message board mom.
Let's assemble our products: lollipops (tootsie pops, tyvm), scotch tape, scissors, printed and plain cardstock, and a heart shape to trace (I'm using a cookie cutter).
During nap, I traced 21 hearts on to pink cardstock (you'll need 3 hearts per flower, so this will give me 7 flowers).
And then I taped the heart-marked pages to the kitchen table, gave Turtle some crayons, and let him go.
He scribbled some. And then made funny faces.
While he was entertaining himself, I used the bottom of his sippy cup (I'm all about using what's on hand) to trace seven circles on the backside of the printed cardstock for the flower centers.
Then I started cutting things out.
I used a spare piece of pink cardstock to make a freehand template to trace for the leaves (on green, of course).
And soon, I had my pile of pieces for assembly.
I used an exacto knife to score Xs into the centers of the flower centers, and cut little triangles out of them to be more decorative, as shown.
I scored more Xs in the points of three hearts and in the tips of two leaves, and then I started sliding the stick of the lollipop into the pieces, like so.
Once the "petals" were in place, I used some tape to secure them.
And did the same for the leaves.
And voila! Beautiful Valentine's Pops!
You can write a little message on the exposed part of the leaf, too!
All that's left is to distribute to your favorite sweethearts on the 14th! (And save a tootsie pop for yourself!)
